The NFAA Express Kiddie Train - Making its way to a station near you!

"NFAA Kiddie Train is a hit!" the press titles say it all. Making its debut in 2011, the North Fork Ambulance unveiled its brand new Kiddie Train in June 2011 as a public relations tool with the community to better inform the public about Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Medicine, while offering something fun for our future generations!

Designed and built from scratch, the NFAA Kiddie Train took hours upon hours of fabrication from a very dedicated man - Don Geddes of Crawford. The NFAA is very thankful for the service and time which Don Geddes spent fabricating the NFAA Express, because it turned out to a truly spectatucular feat!

What is the NFAA Kiddie Train?

The NFAA Kiddie Train is a 17 car barrel train, with seats built into each barrel for children to ride the train at special events, much like a real train. The "train" is pulled by a modified law tractor, that thanks to some creative engineering by Don Geddes, was made to look and sound like a real train locomotive!

Each "car" in the train is a 55 gallon PVC barrel that has been bolted to a specially designed frame, hollowed out on top and a seat installed, just large enough to accomodate those eager little engineers.

How does it work?

This train truly is a feat of engineering. Even with 17 cars at over 60 feet long, the last car of the "train" will track exactly where the locomotive last went! The tracking on this train is so impressive, that the driver can circle the train around itself, reverse directions and exit the circle without ever binding up or catching a car!

How did the NFAA Build the Train?

The Kiddie Train was built entirely through donations from the community and truly is a community effort. "Train car" sponsorships were sold for $50.00 per car, the cost of materials to construct each of the 17 cars. Each of the 17 cars is proudly sponsored by a North Fork Valley business, family or group which donated to make the train possible.

Where does the NFAA Train Go?

The NFAA Kiddie Train is a public relations tool for the North Fork Ambulance and is showcased at a variety of events across the North Fork Valley, Delta County and the Western Slope. Mark your calendars and plan to visit us in 2012 at the following locations:

  • Crawford Pioneer Days in June 2012

Want to schedule the Kiddie Train at Your Event?

Is your group or business planning a large gathering with children that you would like to entertain? Give us a call! Our Kiddie Train is a great way to keep the little ones entertained at social get togethers and it doesn't cost anything to you but your donation. That's right, the NFAA Kiddie Train functions entirely off of donations and we will take it to any event, provided we have enough notice, weather is permitting and enough volunteers are available to assist in the logistics of moving the train and operating it, much like a real train!

The NFAA Kiddie Train is managed and coordinated by NFAA Board Member Deb Ferrier and NFAA Director Kathy Steckel. You may schedule the Kiddie Train by contacting either Deb or Kathy at any time.
