Board Member Biographies:
|
Richard Kinser, NFAA President
Following his desire to make a difference in his community, Richard has been active with the NFAA since becoming an EMT in 1972 and has been an active board member since 1979. Richard's level of commitment to the community is outstanding as he is also an active EMS and CPR instructor, a volunteer firefighter with the Paonia Fire Department, is active in his church, a serves on several boards in conjunction with EMS on the local and state levels. Richard is challenged by the need to educate locals of the necessity for volunteers to continue to bring the best Basic Life Support emergency medical service to the North Fork Valley and always encourages people to come forward. "The NFAA does make a difference, people appreciate our efforts."
Richard was born in Monte Vista, Colorado and his family spent time in Colorado Springs, Security and Kansas, before moving to Paonia, where he graduated from high school in 1970. He and his wife have two grown children, both of which are EMTs running with the NFAA out of Paonia, and a number of wonderful grandchildren. |

Also new to the NFAA board as of February 2008, Russ wanted to get involved with the NFAA to show his appreciation for our local EMS volunteers. Russ hopes that his service to the board will give back to those volunteers who are giving of themselves in an often thankless job. Russ has years of experience working with folks who have needed "a helping hand" over the years through his service on church boards and community groups. Calling the North Fork Valley home since 1978, Russ graduated from Hotchkiss High School in 1981. He and his wife have owned and operated their own business, High Country Gardens, on Rogers Mesa since 1995. Physician Advisor- Dr. Peter Pruett

Taking the position of Physician Advisor for the NFAA in 2007, Dr. Pruett wanted to be part of the already successful EMS service in the North Fork Valley and support the volunteer EMTs who are good at what they do and have done so within the valley for years. Dr. Pruett looks forward to providing additional educational insights for the EMTs and serving as a good liaison between Delta County Memorial Hospital and the NFAA.
EMS has played an important role in Dr. Pruett's life as he became interested in medicine through becoming a volunteer EMT in the late 1970s in the then rural service area of Evergreen, Colorado running calls for a service much like the NFAA. It was this early EMT experience that urged Dr. Pruett to pursue medical school. After considering different specialties, he choose to stay with Emergency Medicine by becoming an emergency room physician, completing his residency at Denver General in 1988, and then moved on to the Trauma Center at Aurora where he became an ER physician.
Dr. Pruett was attracted to the beauty and quietness of the North Fork Valley after spending many years working in Emergency Medicine in the Denver Metro Area. In 2002, he and his wife bought a farm on Powell Mesa and they are in the process of re-establishing it as a producing certified organic fruit farm. Outside his full-time job as an ER physician at Delta County Memorial Hospital, Dr. Pruett has a small plane and loves to fly and enjoy outside activities.

Outside the NFAA job, Karina and her husband own and operate West Elk Land Surveying Inc. She enjoys traveling, reading, gardening, going to the gym and does some adventurous cooking. She also enjoys their two grown children who are now in college.
